REVEREND ALISON WAY

As April gets started, in the Churches across this Benefice we move into Holy Week. We will be concentrating on Jesus and his ultimate fulfilment of God's amazing promises to us. Come and join us for a rich and deep week of worship together across our benefice. It begins with a celebration of Palm Sunday at St Peter's, Clyffe Pypard on 5th April (at 10:30am - please bring a highlighter pen). Later that week we share in the events of the last supper on Maundy Thursday (9th April at Christchurch, Broad Town at 7:30pm). On Good Friday (April 10th), our thoughts turn to the cross and there are 2 services that day, with different flavours. The first is aimed at people of all ages and for families to worship together on this red- letter day in the Church year at St Peter's, Clyffe Pypard at 10am. The second called 'Jesus on the cross', is aimed at adults with special music, readings, reflections and our prayer-filled response to God's promise at 2pm at St Giles, Tockenham. A highlight will be our Benefice choir singing 'God so loved the world' by Stainer.

Our final benefice service for Holy Week, will be a first and a real treat, (so please put it in your diaries now). On Saturday April 11th at 9pm at St Laurence's, Hilmarton we will hold a benefice vigil, a service of light and reaffirm our faith, culminating with the first communion of the resurrection for Easter 2009. This will be worship that engages all the senses and elements of water, fire, wind and earth. It will be a splendid and spectacular celebration — don't miss it and please bring a small torch and something to make joyful noise! As well as this on Easter day (Sunday 12th April) there will also be Easter communion available at St Peter's, Clyffe Pypard at 8am, St Giles, Tockenham at 9:15am and Broad Town at 11:00am, with the celebrations at Tockenham and Broad Town particularly suitable for all the family.

At the end of April, we are also holding the annual general meetings of the parishes of the Benefice as follows, please do come along, you would be most welcome: -

NEWSLETTERS

The Church would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the sterling work done by all members of the "Newsletter" team. To commit to giving up time at the end of 11 months a year is absolutely great. Without these dedicated people we would not be able to spread the word of what is happening in this busy little community. Our special thanks go to the organisations who sponsor the newsletter. It costs about £20 per month, so all donations are gratefully received.

Unfortunately, at the moment we are 1 deliverer short. Is there any-one in the village who feels they would like to join the team and could deliver along the main road from No 13 up to Elm View? If so please contact the editor.

BROAD TOWN WI

In March Broad Town WI hosted a well attended evening to raise funds for "Help for Heroes". Prof. Gordon Turnbull gave an enlightening and stimulating talk on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. He covered its origins, wide reaching affects on victims of all kinds and its changing management. About 60 villagers and visitors enjoyed this interesting talk and slides followed by a raffle, refreshments and home baked cakes. Over £250 was donated to Help for Heroes.

Aprils meeting will take place on Wed. 15^th April at the Trotting Horse pub in Bushton. We will be discussing the Wiltshire Federation Womens Institute resolutions before they are presented to the National Meeting at the June AGM in the Albert Hall. The subjects include Help for honey Bees, NHS Ward cleaning improvements and residential care home fees. The talks will be followed by a game of skittles with bar snacks and drinks.

BROAD TOWN SCHOOL

We have had lots of fun events over the last few weeks. On March 5^th we celebrated World Book Day by dressing up as a character from a book. We then had a parade in the hall. During the day we did different book related activities

On Friday 13^th March we dressed up in red or wore our own clothes on Red Nose Day. In addition to this, we made money by making and selling cakes. Great fun was had when we paid to throw wet sponges at the Year 6 children. In the afternoon, we also had a red nose hide and seek. In total we raised £133. This money will go to support our link school in South Africa.

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

On the 17^th March we performed Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at Broad Town Village Hall. We had really good fun over the last three months practising and performing Joseph to show our parents. We would like to thank Miss Hyner, Mrs Mitchell, Miss Long, Mrs Lundy and Mrs Airey for helping us with our performance. We think we did a fantastic job — Miss Hyner thought we were really good, and we made her very proud! We had fun putting the extra effort in and it was fun being able to do all the drama and acting, and we managed to remember all the colours in Joseph's coat as well! We had to put lots of hard work into perfecting our performance, but we wish it would have lasted longer as we enjoyed it so much! Written by the children in Class 2

BROAD TOWN PARISH COUNCIL

1. The Parish Council meeting for April has been brought forward to Monday 6^th April 2009, to avoid the Bank Holiday. This will be the Annual Parish Meeting where you can find out what has been going on in the Village. It will be followed by the normal monthly PC meeting.

2. The PC has, once again, received complaints about the behaviour of some dog owners. In the area of Chapel Lane, and the track to Littletown Farmhouse some owners are throwing the bags containing dog mess over, and into, hedges. For those responsible - please stop this revolting habit.

BROAD TOWN PRE-SCHOOL

We have had a busy term with our mixed 2-5 year old sessions and have welcomed several new children into pre-school, with some places still available. Visitors into our setting have included the local Health Visitor, Fire Brigade, Shining Stars gym coach and Sophie the lamb!

An on-coming event is arranged for Thursday 2^nd April in the Village Hall. Bring your parents/carers to Pre-School. This will include a Scrapstore Workshop and Paint a Pot activity. Please contact Anne Knight (Supervisor) on 731911 for any enquiries.

CLYFFE PYPARD CHURCH

On Friday 17^th April we are extremely lucky to have been able to book the locally-loved Dauntsey Vale Chamber Group for an exclusive concert in St Peter's Church at 7.30pm. They will be playing a lovely selection of light and classical music including Jesu Joy of Man Desiring by Bach, Palladio by Carl Jenkins and excerpts from the Holberg Suite by Greig. There will also be a solo flautist. Tickets are on sale now. Early bird tickets are available now for £5 each including a post-concert glass of wine. Open Garden and Plant Fair Bank Holiday Monday: May 4^th

Bushton Manor Gardens will be opened. In addition to all the plant stalls, there will be garden gifts and bric-a -brac, gardening books, cakes and local produce for sale. Refreshments will be available all day.

NORTH WILTSHIRE CITIZENS ADVICE BUREAU

There must be few people who have not heard of the Citizens Advice Bureau. But what does this local charity actually do?

North Wilts Citizens Advice Bureau has been providing free, independent, confidential and impartial advice to local people on their rights and responsibilities since December 1987. We value diversity, promote equality and challenge discrimination. Since opening our Chippenham office 21 years ago we have helped people through the negative equity crisis and recession of the 1990s, through the foot and mouth epidemic of 2001 and now we are helping our clients cope with the latest credit crunch. We have always achieved good outcomes for our clients and in 07/08 we gained £1.5 million.

In 2007/08 we helped 5,572 households, 10% of all North Wiltshire households. We were presented with 20,075 problems, of which 64% concerned debt and/or benefits, but hundreds of clients also present problems on a wide range of other issues including housing, employment, legal and discrimination. We provide a holistic service, so clients typically receive advice on more than one issue (averaging 3.6 issues per client) and this advice often spans more than one category, such as advice on debt, benefits and consumer rights.

In order to respond to the increasing demand for our service, we urgently need new volunteers who would like to advise clients. We provide comprehensive training and support and pay travel and carers' expenses. We need volunteers who have a willingness to learn and can commit to volunteering 10 hours a week. Our volunteers tell us they find volunteering at North Wilts CAB rewarding and stimulating.
