REVEREND ALISON WAY
In our cycle of worship to match the seasons of the year and the festivals in the Church, we now enter a long stretch of of what we call ‘ordinary’ time. After the lows and highs of Lent, Easter and Pentecost, we move through the months spread out before us looking at the teachings of Jesus week by week rather than the events of his life that so changed our world.
By concentrating on what Jesus said and what he taught his disciples, we immerse ourselves in a growing season, just like the one we are watching as the plants grow and flourish in our gardens as Spring moves into Summer. For through this growing season of our discipleship, we dig deeper and reach into what Jesus was all about, so we can learn to be more like him day by day and be who God wants us to be through the power of his spirit transforming us from the inside out. This is characterised most fully by living lives centred on love of God, and love of our neighbours as we love ourselves.
Having said this is ‘ordinary’ time, clearly the process I am describing is far from ordinary, as it reflects the extraordinary creativity of God, that has made us all different, unique and stronger together. This is creativity that has given us our own skills, gifts and talents to enrich our families, neighbourhoods and communities. Timothy Radcliffe said in his book ‘What is the point of being a Christian?’ - Ordinary time celebrates what is fundamental to being human, which is that we are ordered, pointed beyond ourselves.
We also have a brief respite from all things ‘ordinary’ time, when we mark the first of the benefice Church’s patronal festivals of the year on Sunday 30th June –St Peter’s Day at St Peter’s Church in Clyffe Pypard (@10:30am). Come and grow with us then or at any of our times of worship in June.
With love in Christ, Alison Way Rector, Benefice of Woodhill, The Rectory, Wood Street, Clyffe Pypard, Wilts, SN4 7PY rectorwoodhill@gmail.com 01793 739044

BROAD TOWN WI
April’s meeting was a very successful Antiques Roadshow featuring TV personalities Thomas Plant and Hugo Marsh. Thomas gave us a very entertaining talk of his path to TV fame and many unusual objects were brought for identification and valuing. Proceeds from ticket sales of £430 were donated to the Swindon 5-18 Counselling Project which councils children who are having difficulty coming to terms with their parents separating and divorcing. A raffle on the night and refreshments helped boost WI funds by £125.
May’s meeting was our AGM followed by skittles and cheese and wine.
This month we look forward to a talk entitled ‘Love food, hate waste’ Hill’s recycling will be giving us tips on how to use food efficiently to reduce food waste.
We are a welcoming friendly group, so if you live in the Wootton Bassett area and would like to give us a try, our next meeting is on Wednesday 19th June at 7.30pm at Broad Town Village Hall. Please do come and give us a try.
CLERKS CLIPPINGS
1. At the recent election, the members of the last Parish Council were all re- elected, but for the first time in living memory they were elected by popular vote. The new Chairman is Stuart Hinson, with Vice-Chairman Jenny Newman.
2. All Council meetings are on the second Monday of each month, but we are looking at a 6.30 start as a trial. These are always open meetings, but if you want the Council to make a decision on a problem, please let me know at least seven days before the meeting so that we can look into the problem.
3. The Parish Clerk remains Roy Davey, old and grumpy. My email address is roydavey@gmail.com
UPDATE FROM YOUR PARISH COUNCIL. Following the recent Parish Council elections we'd like to say a big thank you to everyone who voted and gave us a mandate. For the first time in decades we are really pleased to be able to say we have an elected Parish Council.
Going forwards we will be using this Newsletter to provide you with updates regarding our activities and decisions being made on your behalf. Thank you once again,
Cllrs: Ray Bourton, Nigel Crocker, Stuart Hinson, Jenny Newman, Donna Ponting, John Pullen and Veronica Stubbings
BROAD TOWN COMMUNITY LED PLANNING (CLP) GROUP
We can bring you news this month on progress on the Neighbourhood Plan process. Wiltshire Council has approved the application for the seven villages including Broad Town to become a neighbourhood area and develop a shared Neighbourhood Plan. We are especially pleased that, due to our Group’s insistence at the Area Meeting, we have made sure that there will be an informal poll in each individual village on what will be included in their section of the Plan, prior to sign-off by Parish Councils and before the formal Referendum on the Neighbourhood Plan as a whole. We strongly believe that our influence regarding the informal poll will ensure fairness not just for the people in Broad Town but the other villages as well. Join us if you too would like to have influence on the Neighbourhood Plan!
Additionally the next stage of the local consultation process is about to be launched and you will see details about it in the press release elsewhere in this Newsletter. We do urge you to complete the survey so that you can continue to be involved. Please let us know if you would like to complete the survey but do not have internet access and we will try to arrange this at our next meeting.
Further information is on our own Community Forum site on www.broad-town.co.uk. Please contact me if you would like to go onto our mailing list on lorraine@mrsbillis.co.uk. Everyone is very welcome to come along to our next CLP Group meeting that will be held on Friday 5th July 8.15pm to 9.15pm at the Village Hall.
