BROAD TOWN WHITE HORSE

The White Horse is scoured annually in the spring to clear it of weeds and to re-cover it with lime. An additional factor this year was the need to get it shipshape for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and to that end the scouring was carried out on Sunday 15th May. The liming is carried out as a community activity and all who wish to be involved are encouraged to attend. This year we had 14 volunteers who weeded the Horse and who then raked 11 /2 tons of lime on to the figure (pictured above). Leading up to the event the weather was unsettled but we managed to complete the job before the rain came on. Thanks are due to Jason Bayliffe and Broad Town Brewery who sponsored the lime as well as attending on the day to assist. Thanks also to R D Horton & Son of Cockroost Farm, Broad Hinton who procure the lime on our behalf and delivered it to the site. Maintenance is critical in keeping the Horse looking good and there will be further work this year with weedkilling and strimming. I have a list of regular volunteers who I call on for help but more hands are always welcome. If anyone else wishes to be involved, please let me know by calling 01793 731472 or by contacting andrewlaw456@gmail.com. Liming will take place in 2023 at approximately the same time of year and details will always be published in the Broad Town News.

FOODBANK

The next collection at the Village hall will be on Saturday 11th & Sunday 12th June, 9.00am – 4.00pm. With the cost of living rapidly rising, the use of foodbanks is greater than ever. Please give as generously as you can.

Please note that there will be no coffee morning on the following Wednesday (June 8th), but they will continue as usual on the fourth Wednesday of the month (June 22nd) from 10am - 12 noon.
