BROAD TOWN WI NEWS AND EVENTS
We hope you are enjoying the fantastic Great Big Green Week display in the Shelter opposite the Church – the result of our members bringing in their plastic bottles and the genius of two of our members in setting up the display. The idea came from the Greenpeace presentation that we had when we all were encouraged to take whatever small steps we could towards reducing climate change – our WI likes a challenge and you can see the result!
We are planning our next Open Meeting, that anyone who isn’t a member can attend, at 7.30 on November 17th in the Village Hall. The topic is “The Golden Age of Mountaineering”, refreshments will be included (donations will be gratefully received) and we’ll be holding a fun raffle. Put the date in your diary and look out for more details in next month’s BT newsletter.
The biggest news of all is that we are bringing back CAKE! after restricting ourselves to biscuits while we were getting used to meeting together again. What better reason to come along to our meetings.
Why not join us! We would love to welcome new members to our meetings at 7.30 on the third Wednesday of every month in the Village Hall. Contact Lorraine on lorraine@mrsbillis.co.uk for more information.
COMMUNITY COFFEE MORNING
Following our successful morning in September, we are pleased to confirm that CCM will again be open on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month from 10am to 12 noon in the village hall.
Dates for October are:
Wednesday 13th October – tea/coffee/chocolate etc and cakes!!
Wednesday 27th October – drinks, cakes and some activities for children
Money raised from these two coffee mornings will be sent to MacMillan
We look forward to seeing you.
NEWS FROM BROAD TOWN CE SCHOOL
The new school year has started in beautiful weather and it is wonderful to see the children playing outside with their friends again. We can continue too with enjoying outdoor learning - not just for sports, though this is an important part of our school day, but with different learning activities taking place outside of the classroom. Did you know how many different sports the children have the opportunity to try? Archery, boxercise, lacrosse, and gymnastics are included as well as athletics, games, cycling and swimming and there are some fantastic photos of our sports day on the school website.
Music is playing a large part in our school day too, with pupils taking up tuition in guitar, horn and drums - you may hear us as you walk past the school!
Although we are continuing to follow some Covid restrictions to keep the school and the community safe, it is good to be moving towards bringing back the events that mark the school year and we are all looking forward to celebrating Harvest Festival at the end of September.
Items for the November newsletter should be with the editor by Friday 22nd October please.
