ANTICIPATION

Children – what is Christmas going to bring, how many of the presents on my list will Santa have?

Adults – What will the New Year bring for us all?

Christ Church Broad Town – Has the last advertisement brought a new Vicar for us?

All of these questions will be answered in time but why are we so impatient, especially as the allotted time gets nearer.

Do we have the same anticipation of reaching God’s kingdom? I doubt that many of us give it any thought at all. But the Church teaches us that if we live our lives rightly with love for our fellow people then the kingdom is ours. What a great thought with which to enjoy Christmas and start the New Year.

CHRISTMAS COFFEE MORNING

On December 6^th we will be opening the doors of the café to our Christmas Coffee Morning. We will be having the usual stalls – cakes, Christmas goodies, tombola and refreshments. Tickets will be on sale for the Christmas raffle; the first prize will be a short break away at a lovely seaside cottage courtesy of Mr and Mrs Rendell. A great prize! There will be many other prizes. Tickets available from members of the church or phone Clive and Margaret on 01793 854200

The doors will be open from 10am – 12noon.

THE CHRISTMAS CAROL SERVICE

December 18^th at 6.00pm. All are very welcome so come and herald in the Christmas time with a good hearty sing of the well-known carols. The service will be followed with refreshments.

COLLECT AND RETURN

We have in the Church various vases, containers and baskets used for flower arranging. If any of them are yours please could you collect them as the Church is running out of space.

The Village Hall has lost 3 of its wooden tables since August. The assumption is that they have just been borrowed and the hall committee is now asking for their return. If you have them please contact Nigel Crocker on 01793 731281.

FOOD BANK CHRISTMAS CRISIS

We are very aware that the school parents were very generous at Harvest with their giving for the Food Bank.

The Church Council has decided to turn to the villagers to ask them to help fill a box of food so that the food bank does not have to turn people away over the festive period.

At the moment the food bank is short of sweet biscuits, fruit juice, tinned fruit, 500g bags of sugar and jars of coffee. Items such as tinned meat, soup, tinned veg, long life milk, ready custard, jam, or any non-perishable are most welcome.

The food bank is also looking for toilet rolls, 2 in 1 shampoo, shower gel, deodorant, toothpaste and tooth brushes.

Any item may be brought to the Church on the 6^th December between 10am and Noon or the 13^th December between the same times. Or given to any member of the church. Christmas is a time of giving and the present of food to the clients of the bank is a lifesaver.

Thank you in anticipation of a very full box.

SWINDON & DISTRICT SCOUT POST - CHRISTMAS 2014

This facility is again being provided this year as in previous years. The cost of the special stamp is now 30p. They can be purchased in Royal Wootton Bassett from Bevirs, Solicitors, High Street; Haines & Smith, Opticians, High Street; News Plus, Gainsborough Avenue & Radway’s the Cobblers, The Arcade, High Street. The last date for posting mail into the Scout Post is TUESDAY 16^th DEC at 4:00pm and all items must be posted in the special green post boxes which can be found at Sainsbury’s Borough Fields, Haines & Smith, Radway’s & News Plus.

The area covered for delivery of Scout Post is:-

BROAD TOWN COMMUNITY LED PLANNING (CLP) GROUP

Our work on the draft of the Broad Town section of the Neighbourhood Plan is close to completion and we are aiming to present it to the Parish Council at its next meeting on 8^th December. It has taken much longer than anyone ever expected for many reasons that were outside of our control and we would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has contributed to the process or has read about progress on our Community Forum. The CLPG will continue to attend the Area Steering Group (the next meeting is on 10^th December) and keep you informed of the next consultation stages on the Community Forum so please keep on visiting the site to get the latest information. Happy Christmas from all of us on the CLPG !

BROAD TOWN WI

Our speaker for November was unable to attend so we improvised with an evening of ‘show and tell’. We had an enjoyable time recommending good books, theatre trips (including ballet, opera, musicals and plays) and enjoyable hotels and holidays. One of our members told us about her three week trip to Rio for the world cup. Another told of her 60^th year spent doing 60 amazing things which will reach its highlight in the summer with a parachute jump!

Our December meeting will be on Wednesday 10^th when we will be making Christmas wreaths, tree decorations and enjoying some Christmas refreshments.

We are a friendly group and welcome new members. Our programme for next year is just about to be printed, so if you would like to join us and would like some more information please contact Jane on 01793 731105.

PARISH CLERKS CLIPPINGS

1. CLPG/PC.. It was felt that the Community Led Planning Group/ Parish Council Joint Working Group producing the report for NEW-V, as required, is not proceeding fast enough. To enable the group to complete the report before submitting it, it was agreed the PC should withdraw from the group so that they can move on apace.

2. There is still a vacancy on the Parish Council. Be brave - put your head above the parapet. The Clerk can help.

3. Parking - Chapel Lane. Inconsiderate parking on Chapel Lane is causing difficulties for passing traffic. There is concern that emergency vehicles may be prevented from getting through.

4. Redhills Playing Field. The PC has done its best to tidy the area up. All we need now is a small group of volunteers to move forward

BROAD TOWN BIG GIG

The Big Gig AGM took place in the Parish Hall on Friday 14 Nov with 11 people in attendance. A new committee was formed with its first meeting scheduled to take place at 8pm at the Crown Broad Hinton on Thu 29 January 2015. Anyone who feels that they would like to become a committee member but was unable to attend the AGM is invited to contact Andrew Law (Big Gig Secretary) on 01793 731472.

At a previous committee meeting, the distribution of the profits from the 2014 event was agreed. The beneficiaries are as follows:

SSAFA. (Soldiers', Sailors' and Airmen's Families Association)

Goldenhar Family Support Group. (Goldenhar syndrome is a craniofacial syndrome which causes certain abnormalities in the formation of the face and head).

Tockenham coffee morning are having a pre Christmas get together with Christmas nibbles, a themed raffle and Jean will be there with her creative Christmas cards. BROAD TOWN DOG WALKERS JANUARY WALK

If you would like to join a friendly group of local dog owners and their dogs for a social walk in the local area we will be starting the new year by meeting at The White Horse car park in Winterbourne Bassett on Sunday the 18th January at 11.30. We aim to do a circular walk of around an hour and return to the pub for a coffee/ drink/ food afterwards. All dogs and owners are very welcome. We are very happy to be joined by walkers without dogs.

We meet in Bushton Village Hall on second and fourth Wednesdays 1.45 to 2.45pm. We welcome all babies and toddlers and their parents or carers and any other family visitors who happen to be around at the time. Do come for a coffee, a chat, and a play. Plenty of parking and lots of room to play.

LINK 6 & RWB Good Neighbour Scheme

Looking for something different to give somebody this Christmas?

How about the gift that keeps on giving?

Our LINK6 volunteers are looking for some new people to join us.

We provide a much valued Good Neighbour service to people in our community who need that extra little bit of help with their daily lives.

We take people for medical appointments, social events, hairdressers, shopping.

We may be able to tackle the odd job like a bit of sewing or putting up some curtains.

Or just sitting with somebody for an hour or reading to them.

Can you spare a few hours a month? There is no regular commitment.

INVOLVE SWINDON

Involve Swindon – helping employees volunteer - is an alliance of companies, statutory bodies and voluntary organisations working together to encourage employees to give their time and develop their skills through volunteering in the local community.

We are particularly looking for new projects that teams of employee volunteers can help out with. Things like decorating village halls or scout huts, helping out with the creation of community gardens, painting play equipment for pre-schools & primary schools.

In the past, teams of people from local employers have helped out at Bishopstone Village Hall, helped clear up an area of waste ground for Stratton Parish Council, re-painted the play equipment of pre-schools & primary school and more - see www.involveswindon.co.uk for out latest case studies.

Our retired horse and pony need a new home. We are looking for grazing and shelter of some sort with a small amount of storage for hay, shavings and rugs as close to Clyffe Pypard as possible. We prefer a quiet location possibly on a farm rather than a large livery yard. We are also interested in a rural house (not near a busy road) with a minimum of 4 bedrooms to rent. If this could be combined with a home for the horses, any local rural area would be of interest.

PART-TIME /CASUAL VACANCY – LANDSCAPING LABOURER

I may shortly have a vacancy for a labourer to work in a small landscaping business, on a casual but fairly regular basis. The rate of pay will depend upon experience and suitability. Most previous occupants have been recent graduates or people in-between jobs, although anyone who is reasonably fit might enjoy the work. You will need to have your own transport.
