https://broad-town.co.uk/Community-Groups/Womens-Institute-WI/ID/2461/Christmas-Party-12-December-2018 We all enjoyed this year's Christmas Party in the hall.  Some of us were better than others at guessing which essential oil was what in Tracey Holland's quiz!  We also had a place name quiz organised by Pam Howells before eating the lovely food we all brought.  We rounded off the evening with a beetle drive which Janet Clewley had arranged.  It was a fitting end to a great WI year and we are all looking forward to our meetings in 2019!  Pam Howells Sun, 23 Dec 2018 13:55:00 GMT https://broad-town.co.uk/Community-Groups/Womens-Institute-WI/ID/2452/September-Meeting Kate John gave an excellent and interactive talk on occupational therapy.  Her work is really important in enabling people to find ways of going about their normal life so they can be discharged from hospital and hopefully live back in their homes.  Simple tasks like making a cup of tea, peeling vegetables and climbing stairs can be overwhelming for people who, for instance, have had a stroke, a brain injury or have dementia.  Using simple props we saw what OTs can help us do to get the most out of life after a spell of ill health.  Pam Howells Thu, 20 Sep 2018 12:18:00 GMT f1397696-738c-4295-afcd-943feb885714:2452 something so beautiful could come out of a small piece of clay.  During the month some members went to the Trowbridge Sewage Works to see how waste is disposed of.  The site prides itself on dealing with 100% of the waste on site.  Other members took part in a Walking Netball taster session which was extremely good fun and way more energetic than one would think!  The WI is hoping to get sessions up and running in the autumn.  We have no meeting in August but are intending to walk from Broad Town up to The Crown at Broad Hinton for a meal.  Our September meeting (on 19th) is a talk by Kate https://broad-town.co.uk/Community-Groups/Womens-Institute-WI/ID/2427/Afternoon-Tea-and-Tour-of-the-Wyvern-Theatre On 23 May 14 members and partners enjoyed a behind-the-scenes tour of the Wyvern Theatre followed by a lovely cream tea.  It was really interesting to see backstage and understand what goes on backstage.  Our two volunteer guides were full of information.  Well worth a visit. As part of the package we have purchased from the Community Heartbeat Trust we have the opportunity to hold an awareness session.  We have taken advantage of this and it will be held at 10.00 am on March 10th in the Village Hall (It takes 2 hours). They will be demonstrating the use of defibrillators and explaining how the equipment works and the benefits to the community in saving precious minutes in the treatment of sudden cardiac arrest.   There will also be some basic first aid training eg how to perform CPR and how to put a patient in the rescue position.  Everyone is welcome to come along; there is no need to book. Broad Town WI decided last year they would like to raise money to install a defibrillator in the village in memory of Rosie McLaren who had recently passed away.  She had always been very involved in village life, helping anyone who was sick, bereaved or lonely.  She was also a very supportive member of the Church and WI among other things.  We thought it would be a fitting tribute. Finally we would like to thank Broad Town Parish Council, and the Area Board for their help and support when we were raising funds.  A special thank you to the Parish Council for also agreeing to take on the on going costs. We hope you can join us.
