REVEREND ALISON WAY
Ordinary Time?
After the lows and highs of Lent and Easter, we celebrate the coming of God’s Holy Spirit at Pentecost, and that day we are holding a Benefice Communion at 10:30am in St Laurence’s Church, Hilmarton. Do come and listen to Rev’d David Heslop, who is co-ordinator for ‘Learning for Discipleship’ in our diocese, who will be leading our worship. The following week, we will be marvelling at our understanding God as Father, Son and Holy Spirit on Trinity Sunday.
However after that in the Church year, we are finally into a period that the Church calls ‘ordinary time’. As Timothy Radcliffe put it:
‘This sound rather boring, as if we are just hanging around until the next exciting event in the year. It fills the gap between the fun of Christmas and Epiphany and the drama of Holy Week, and then between Pentecost and the end of the year! This is wrong. Ordinary time celebrates what is fundamental to being human, which is that we are ordered, pointed beyond ourselves. It has its own contribution to make to showing the point of Christianity’. Over the next few months we will be looking at what it means to love God and to love our neighbour as ourselves, and how we flourish better together than apart. Come and join us for worship, and to understand more about our extra-ordinary God, who loves us so much.

ART EXHIBITION
June 13th and 14th will see Christ Church converted to an art gallery for local artists. If last time is anything to go on we will have a grand display of all sizes, subjects and mediums. There should be something for everyone to fill that empty wall! Opening times are I0am - 5pm on both days. Entrance will be 50p and refreshments will be available.
Do come and enjoy the local talent.
BROAD TOWN SCHOOL FETE AND FUN RUN
The school Fete on the 13th June is from 1pm - 4pm.
Your support over the previous years has been terrific and we would like to see you all again this month.

BENEFICE OUTING 2009
Jackie and Trish are again organising a Benefice outing. This year we have arranged to visit Hereford Cathedral. The Cathedral also houses the Mappa Mundi and chained library (which you can choose to visit as an extra on the day). The date for the visit is Friday October 9th. Letters with full information and booking forms will be available from mid May from Trish 01249 760638, Jackie 01249 760255, Adele at Hilmarton Post Office and the Benefice Churches. Do join us if you can. Tickets will be allocated on a “first come” basis. Final numbers are necessary by the middle of August.

RESULTS OF THE SCARECROW COMPETITION
What a wonderful picture all of the scarecrows made! They were all great and everyone who went round to look made a comment and said how much they had enjoyed themselves.
Luckily for us the week of the competition was fairly dry but a bit windy, so all of the scarecrows survived.
The entrants were 1- windowcleaner; 2 - teacher; 3 - binman; 4 - lifeguard; 5 - clerk in holy orders; 6 - pirate; 7 - spaceman; 8 - builder; 9 - retired; 10 - vicar; 11 - dressed to kill; 12 - fisherman.
And the winner was - The Spaceman, with the fisherman second and the windowcleaner third.
A great big Thank You to all who made scarecrows and all who took the time to look round. £65 was made towards Church funds. Thank you all for your support.
Hopefully we will see more of you next year so put it in your diaries now. The theme for next year is "Nursery Rhymes" so you all have 12 months to think about it.
BROAD TOWN C OF E SCHOOL
Congratulations to:- Ashley and Harry B who won the North Wilts League last week with their football team Elite Soccer Coaching.
Ella, David and Edwin Maslin, Hannah Clarke and Mollie Rawlins on winning 1st place with their "Toy Box" float in their class at Wootton Bassett Carnival.
Class 3 for winning a prize with their "Lifesaver" scarecrow at the Kington St. Michael Scarecrow competition.
WILTSHIRE AIR AMBULANCE APPEAL
With the signing of the new 5year contract, thankfully the ambulance will still be in the air for a bit longer. But that means renewed vigour is needed to raise funds!
We have now launched our textile bank recycling scheme and mobile phone and ink cartridge recycling. Each cartridge can bring in as much as £1; but sorry no Epsons.
The Westbury Charity shop is doing well so another will hopefully be opening in Devizes this year.
We thank all for their support in the past and if you can help with any of our new schemes we will be very grateful.
THE GUILD OF WILTSHIRE ARTISTS
Run workshops at the Village Hall on every third Saturday of the month from 10am to 4pm. All are welcome including painters who are beginners.
Tea and Coffee provided but do bring a packed lunch.
Help will be given to those who request it.
