FRIENDS OF BROAD TOWN CHURCH

To all those in the Village who have contributed to this fund in the past we give our deepest thanks. Hopefully soon you will see a return for your money with the redecoration of the church. You may have noticed that the gates are missing - they have gone to be cleaned and repainted. We are now waiting for the bottom fixing to be mended and then they can go back up.

Our request is this - if you wish to continue to be a or indeed want to become a "Friend" to your Village Church please send your cheques (made out to The Friends of Christ Church Broad Town), a minimum of £12 to Rosemary McLaren at 12 Broadacres. If you can gift aid this please do so and then we can get the 28p in the pound from the Government for a bit longer.

It is hoped that people will continue to support the Church, any further information please contact the Church Wardens or other members of the PCC.

BROAD TOWN PARISH COUNCIL

  1. The Broad Town website (www.broad-town.co.uk) is now up and running, and has the agenda and minutes of Parish Council meetings. Be a devil - try it.
  2. Dog Fouling. The Parish Council is once again getting complaints of dog fouling, in particular in Chapel Lane, and Thornhill. I thought we had solved this problem. PLEASE clean up after your dog.

clip_image002As March dawns this year, we move into Lent. Initially our Sunday services will be looking at God’s promise to us. On this journey we visit with Noah, Abraham, and Moses. There are also full details of our weekday Lent programme, available in the churches or from me. The midpoint of Lent is Mothering Sunday (March 22nd), please do come to our family friendly communions that day at 9:15am in St Lawrence, Hilmarton or 11:00am in St Peter’s, Clyffe Pypard. Please bring a drawing or photo of your mother or someone who has been like a mother to you to this celebration (A5 size would be perfect!).

Then the intensity of Lent deepens as we move into ‘Passiontide’ on 29th March, and we continue our journey through God’s promises by a visit with Jeremiah. In Holy Week, we will be concentrating on Jesus and his ultimate fulfilment of God’s amazing promises to us. We have a wonderful week planned overflowing with rich, thought-provoking and stirring benefice worship together. It begins with a benefice wide celebration of Palm Sunday at St Peter’s Clyffe Pypard on 5th April (at 10:30am). Later that week we share in the events of the last supper on Maundy Thursday (9th April at Christchurch, Broad Town at 7:30pm). On Good Friday (April 10th), our thoughts turn to the cross and there are 2 services that day, with different flavours. The first is aimed at people of all ages and for families to worship together on this red-letter day in the Church year at St Peter’s Clyffe Pypard at 10am. The second called ‘Jesus on the cross’, is aimed at adults with special music, readings, reflections and our prayer-filled response to God’s promise at 2pm at St Giles, Tockenham.

Our final benefice service for Holy Week, will be a first for this benefice (and a real treat, so please put it in your diaries now). On Saturday April 11th at 9pm at St Laurence’s, Hilmarton we will hold a benefice vigil, a service of light and re-affirm our faith, culminating with the first communion of the resurrection for Easter 2009. This will be worship that engages all the senses and elements of water, fire, wind and earth. It will be a splendid and spectacular celebration – don’t miss it! As well as this on Easter day (Sunday 12th April) there will also be Easter communion available at St Peter’s, Clyffe Pypard at 8am, St Giles, Tockenham at 9;15am and Broad Town at 11:00am, with the celebrations at Tockenham and Broad Town particularly suitable for all the family.

Wishing you a holy Lent, and when it comes, a very happy Easter,

Rev’d Alison Way,

The Vicarage, Wood Street, Clyffe Pypard, Wiltshire, SN4 7PY - 01793 739044 – alisonway@tiscali.co.uk
