Palm Sunday

Lent unfolds…..

This picture is one of me on the day of my birth. I am the baby on the bed, with my brother and sister checking I had fingers and toes, and my mother looking on in the background. It reminds us just how vulnerable we are as small babies and how much we rely on our mothers and others who cared for us. Mothering Sunday brings us an opportunity to thank our mothers (and others who cared for us) or remember them. Please do join us for special all-age friendly worship for Mothering Sunday at St Giles, Tockenham at 9:15am or Christchurch Broad Town at 11am on 14^th March. Please bring a picture of yourself as a baby or small child (up to A5 sized).

Later in March, Lent continues a pace and on Palm Sunday we will have a special benefice communion at 10:30am at St Giles in Tockenham. If the weather is favourable, this will include having a palm procession around the church to remember Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem on the first Palm Sunday. On this day, we will also hear again the story of the Passion, this year from the gospel of Luke. Please bring a marker pen to this service to mark up your part (with others) in the dramatic reading.

Thanks to all who supported our Pancake morning. We made over £100 for the upkeep of the Church. We are very sorry to those who did not get a pancake, we ran out of batter – next time we know to make more.

VACANCY

It is with regret that the PCC has accepted Carolyn Crocker's resignation as Secretary. Carolyn has been a hardworking and conscientious member of the PCC for many years and we are sorry to lose her. This leaves us with a dilemma. The PCC meets bimonthly and we are looking for someone to take the minutes. You might not attend Church but nevertheless are interested in supporting and helping to maintain the presence of the village Church. 1) CENTIMANY FITNESS STUDIO – OPEN DAY - 6^TH MARCH - BROAD TOWN LODGE

Centimany Fitness Studio is based in the heart of our village, due to fantastic response from Broad Town Local Community and the demand for further sessions, we would like to confirm that we now operate the Open Gym Sessions Monday through to Friday – 5pm – 7pm. We offer a pay as you go (£7 per session, no annual commitment of a large chain).

We are assessing the need to offer Open Gym Sessions during the day and would appreciate your views and needs.

We are very proud to announce that Centimany will be opening our very own Holiday club to children aged 7yrs and over. Open during Easter Holidays – 6^th April – 9^th April & 12^th April – 16^th April, May Half Term and the Summer Holidays.

Katie & her Team offer a wide variety of fun & games, our main aim is to promote Fitness and healthy well-being to our younger audience within a gym environment. We will operate three sessions – morning / afternoon / all day session. The cost of the sessions: £12.00 morning / afternoon or all day session £20.00 this includes all activities and a healthy snack.

2) BROAD TOWN WI

The WI met on 17th Feb in the Village Hall for a eye opening talk on Gorillas in the midst of conflict in Uganda, including the interaction of this threatened species and their habitat with the local people. The speaker - Mr Iain Perry gave an enthusiastic and heart felt talk on the gorillas and the charity work he is involved with in the Bwindi National park. The talk was illustrated by some beautiful slides of the wild life and Ugandan landscapes.
This month’s meeting's talk will be on” A year in the life of a beehive” by a local bee keeper. Anyone interested in this subject from the Village is welcome to come along to the Village Hall on 17th March 7.30pm. The Broad Town WI members are delighted to see new faces and welcomes visitors to any of its meetings which usually take place on the 3rd Wed of every month at 7.30pm in the Village Hall. 3) BROAD TOWN PARISH PLAN QUESTIONNAIRE - RESULTS EVENING! AND WHERE WE GO FROM HERE!

Just a reminder from the Parish Plan Steering Group that we'll be presenting the results of the Parish Plan Questionnaire on. Friday, 26^th March in Broad Town Village Hall. We invite you all to join us at 7 p.m. for a coffee or tea, ready for a 7.30 p.m.. start. The bar will open at 9 p.m. following the Presentation and the Q and A session.

Because of the amazing number of completed questionnaires returned to us, it's taken us a while to process and analyse the results, so thank you for your time and patience. Our thanks also to our data analyst who has voluntarily given us many hours of her time, and of course to the Village Hall Social Committee who have kindly let us 'take over' their evening.

We very much look forward to seeing you all on 26th March, and hope you will find the evening informative and enjoyable.

4) SPRING COFFEE MORNING

This will be on April 24^th and the cafe will be open as usual from 10am till noon. Plants and cakes will be on sale,

5) DON'T FORGET THE WEEKEND OF JUNE 11^TH - 13^TH

Concert. The weekend starts with a concert by Roger Mepstead and vocalist performing a Karen Carpenter tribute. This will take place in the Church.

Nursery Rhyme Scarecrows. Are you all thinking of what rhyme to do? We had so much fun last year; we hope more of you will join in this year. We are hoping to organise a workshop to give ideas and advice — more of that next month.

Gardens Open. We already have several families who have agreed to have their gardens open to the public on the same weekend. They cover the whole spectrum from informal wildlife to formal garden. There will be a plant stall in one garden and refreshments in another garden.

6) BIG GIG - 4th September 2010

Thanks for all your suggestions of bands for this year's Big Gig - we have a good selection to choose from and will be seeing as many of the artists as possible performing live in the next couple of months. More suggestions are always welcome, so keep them coming! We are also busy with the planning process as well as organising some much needed maintenance (painting) of the lock up, so watch this space for an opportunity to be involved.

This year, we have decided that as well as helping various village organisations, we will also donate 25% of the proceeds to a national charity. Our chosen charity for 2010 is

Help For Heroes (http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk). Please help us in any way you can to raise funds for the Village and what we feel is a very worthy cause.

We haven't had much response from other Village groups / individuals who could make use of the marquees for a Village event around early September. Perhaps you’ve thought about resurrecting the flower / produce show, a Village BBQ or Pig Roast, some kind of sporting event with a social element.

The Big Gig committee would be delighted to provide advice and moral support if needed; it would be great if we could give the Village two remarkable events and bring the community together.
