A NEW START

How many of us are making a new start this month, whether it is up a class at school, changing school, going to university, changing job or moving house. This month sees many children and people apprehensive about what the future holds.

One idea to hold on to is “Be true to your principles”. With this in mind it is easier to make one’s way in the world.

Those of us who believe in Christ were given a set of principles to follow which keep us on the straight and narrow path. There are sometimes difficulties on the path but to hear “Well done thou good and faithful servant” is our reward.

CONGRATULATIONS

Mr John Essex Coney of “The Pinnocks” was 100 on the 15th Aug. We hope he had a happy day with his family and friends.

Mr Coney was born 11 days after the declaration of WW1 – what a lot has happened in his lifetime!

ITALIAN EVENING

Following the success of our Curry night we decided to travel to Italy for the next adventure. So come and enjoy the delights of Italy without needing a passport. On 27th Sept 2014 in the Village Hall at Broad Town there will be a three course Italian meal followed by entertainment by Supanova who will be entertaining us with Italian music.

Tickets from Margaret Green - 01793 854200; Margaret Manley – 731564; Carol Oldfield – 731097 and Christine Marshall - 731543. Tickets are £15 Adults and £10 for 12 yrs and under. Tickets are now available. We look forward to seeing you all there. Proceeds to Christ Church.

COFFEE MORNING

On September 13th, to coincide with the Ride and Stride event the Church Café will again be open. We will be selling cakes and quiches as well as there being a general sales table.

Clive, Margaret and Janet will again be attempting to cycle round the Deanery on an exercise bike. They managed it last time but that was a few years ago. Sponsorship will help to keep their legs moving. Money can be donated on the day.

BROAD TOWN COMMUNITY LED PLANNING (CLP) GROUP

Although we have been working jointly with Parish Council members all through August on the draft aims, objectives and policy options for the Broad Town section of the proposed Neighbourhood Plan, there is very little that is new to report. The dates for our meetings in September have not yet been confirmed though it is hoped that a Wiltshire Council officer from the Spatial Planning Team will be able to attend one of our meetings to answer questions and make sure we are heading in the right direction. We will continue to publish information on our Community Forum as it becomes available and we can send details direct to you if you would like to go onto our mailing list.

Please contact us if you would like to go onto our mailing list on lorraine@mrsbillis.co.uk. More information is on our Community Forum on www.broad-town.co.uk and from project managers Common Places www.New-V.co.uk .

Come and claim it: we’ve got real ales, traditional cider, draught Beck’s, wines, spirits and everything else you’d expect (You could always have a glass of wine, spirit & mixer, soft or hot drink instead if pints aren’t your thing). And we’re much cheaper than most pubs, so getting a round in won’t hurt your wallet! BROAD TOWN WI

In August we had our summer outing and this year we went to Highclere Castle. Twenty one WI members and four guests from Broad Hinton’s ‘Ridgeway Ladies’ travelled by coach to Highclere in Hampshire, famous now for being the setting for the filming of Downton Abbey.

We were lucky with the weather and enjoyed exploring the house and gardens. We had an excellent lunch and many of us managed to fit in an ice cream and/or cream tea! There was a lot of chat sitting in beautiful surroundings in the sunshine, a really enjoyable day.

Our next meeting will be at 7.30pm on 17th September and we will be back in Broad Town Village Hall. It is a members evening when we will be reviewing good books, lovely places to visit, good places to eat etc. New members are always welcome. Call Jane on 01793 731105 for more information.

BROAD TOWN BIG GIG

If you’re reading this before the 30th August, then all we need to say is if you haven’t got your tickets, get them now!! This is the best line-up ever and with the added spectacular laser show, additional food options and other attractions, it’s going to be a not to be missed show-stopping cracker! Gates open at 15:00, non-stop music from 15:30 to 23:50. Limited parking, so if you can walk, please do.

If you’re reading this post the Big Gig, then we hope the memories will put a smile on your face – check out the Facebook and our website for pics.

BROAD TOWN DOG OWNERS

If you would like to join other dog owners and their dogs for a social walk in the local area we will be meeting on Sunday 14th September at 9.45 for a 10.00 walk. Please meet in Broad Hinton Church car park. We will be out for around an hour or so and the walk will take us across country to Winterbourne Bassett and back.

Please keep dogs on a lead until they have got to know each other. All dogs (and owners!) are very welcome - if your dog needs extra space from others please let us know on the day and we will advise the group.

Dogs and owners had an enjoyable walk last month and we were very lucky that the rain held off. We are looking forward to new walkers joining us and if you have a favourite walk locally that you think we might enjoy, please let us know.

Any questions please call or e-mail Annette on 07974 763645 /annette.moore@live.co.uk

BUSY BEES

We meet in Bushton Village Hall on second and fourth Wednesdays 1.45 to 2.45pm. We welcome all babies and toddlers and their parents or carers and any other family visitors who happen to be around at the time. Do come for a coffee, a chat, and a play. Plenty of parking and lots of room to play.

Please contact Kim Gough on kim.gough@rocketmail.com or on 07850933344. We look forward to meeting you.

JOIN RIDE AND STRIDE 2014

This year the sponsored Cycle, Walk, Jog, Horse-ride (however you fancy travelling except by car!) around Wiltshire Churches and Chapels will take place on Saturday 13th September between 10am and 6pm. Sponsor money raised will be shared between your chosen church and the Wiltshire Historic Churches Trust. Many churches are open for refreshments including Broad Town and some have toilet facilities. I have a list of these churches. If you feel energetic and would like to participate, further details and sponsorship forms are available from Carolyn on 852754.

Just a reminder that I am here to help with information to (hopefully) solve problems and make your life a little easier. Please call me,

Ellen Blacker on 07557 110414 or email me at rwbcrickladegnc@communityfirst.org.uk

PLEASE CAN YOU HELP??????????

Our retired horse and pony need a new home. We are looking for grazing and shelter of some sort with a small amount of storage for hay, shavings and rugs as close to Clyffe Pypard as possible. We prefer a quiet location possibly on a farm rather than a large livery yard. We are also interested in a rural house (not near a busy road) with a minimum of 4 bedrooms to rent. If this could be combined with a home for the horses, any local rural area would be of interest. If you can help or know someone who can please contact us.

Tea and Coffee provided but do bring a packed lunch. Help will be given to those who request it. Contact telephone numbers 731154, 731519.
