BROAD TOWN C of E PRIMARY SCHOOL GOVERNOR VACANCY

Broad Town C of E Primary School has a vacancy for a governor and is actively seeking applications for the post from the local community.  Governors have a real responsibility for and influence on the strategic management of the school and the education of our children so it is a great opportunity for community involvement.  Experience of the education sector is not necessary but you will need enthusiasm, a willingness to serve and take responsibility, have time to commit to attend meetings and visiting the school.  Being involved with the teaching staff and young children in a small school (judged Good by Ofsted in March 2018!) can be a real blessing!  If you are interested please contact John Oldfield (Chair of Governors) on JOldfield@broadtown.wilts.sch.uk

BROAD TOWN PRE-SCHOOL & FOREST SCHOOL OPEN DAY 25TH APRIL 2019

We have also invited the grant providers to our community coffee morning on 10 April, 10 am – mid-day to thank them and anyone is welcome to come along.

COMMUNITY HEARTBEAT TRUST DEFIBRILLATOR

This is a reminder that we have a defibrillator in the Village.  It is sited outside the Village Hall and is available for anyone to use in the unfortunate situation of someone they are with having heart failure.  It is simple to use and talks you through what you must do.  It is a requirement though, that you RING 999 FIRST to get help on the way as soon as possible.  The ambulance service will also tell you what to do and support you while you wait for the ambulance.  If you are within 200m of the Hall they will automatically tell you about the defibrillator and tell you the access code.  If you are further away but have someone who could fetch it for you quickly, you will need to ask them for the access code.

PARISH COUNCIL UPDATE

Community Grants

The Parish Council were pleased to award 2 grants from our Community Fund at our last meeting. The first will contribute to the purchase of a professional glass washing machine for Broad Town Social Club and the second will support the purchase of a Speed Indicator Device to help slow traffic in the Village. The Council will next consider grant applications at our September meeting and any community group wanting more information should contact the Parish Clerk.

Digital Access to your Council Tax records

Wiltshire Council are setting up a new citizen’s portal to make it simpler, quicker and easier for people to access current and historic information about their council tax accounts, called “Revenues on Line”. It will also be possible to claim both housing benefit and council tax reduction through this new system.Access to the new system will be via a link on the council tax pages on Wiltshire Council’s website and will be available from 4th March 2019.

Football Goalposts for Redhills Playing Field

Since it became necessary to remove the previous goal posts due to safety concerns, the Council have been reviewing all replacement options, both new and second hand. After all due diligence we have concluded that we will progress with the purchase and installation of new fixed goal posts and our aim is to get these in place as soon as possible now that Spring is nearly here. The Council would like to thank Brian Smith and Royal Wootton Bassett Rugby Club for the kind offer of second hand movable goal posts and for their support in helping us assess the options.

Wiltshire Online broadband programme

Under this programme more than 5,500 homes and businesses in the County will benefit from access to a new ultrafast full fibre network. The infrastructure for Broad Town should be in place by the last quarter of the year. LINDY HOP DANCING

Swingout Swindon (Cliff and Erica), have been running swing dance classes in Swindon for over 4 years.  For the last 2 years we have been teaching fortnightly in East Challow, Wantage.

Recently we have been looking to fill the Tuesday gap and by popular demand we have decided to offer Broad Town and surrounding areas the chance to learn to dance.

Our Lindy Hop classes are filled with smiles and laughter, along with some great moves to get you on that dance floor.  Although you require a partner to dance with, don’t worry, if you don’t have one to bring there will be plenty there, as we rotate everyone around throughout the lesson.

Don’t forget your footwear! Make sure you have comfy and supportive shoes but not too grippy on the soles.

Fortnightly Classes at Broad Town Village Hall

THANK YOU, BROAD TOWN,!

I knew it wouldn’t be easy starting a new business, but thanks to the massive amount of support I’ve received from the wonderful people of Broad Town, I’m delighted to be celebrating my first year as Louise – Girl Friday.  It’s been both challenging and rewarding and I’ve met some truly lovely people.  The variety of work has been huge – from typing up a 26,000 word dissertation by dictation, being the Administrator for the RWB Chamber of Commerce, property maintenance including decorating and gardening, to looking after sheep, donkeys, dogs and fish (not all at the same house)!

I’m available for one-off odd jobs or regular, long term work and have extremely competitive rates.  Please see my web site or just ask. I would like to say a huge thank you to all of my clients for your continued support, it’s very much appreciated.
